Highlands Ranch driver admits fault in death of teen on school commute | News

Highlands Ranch Teen’s Killer Pleads Guilty: Ruben Morones, the driver responsible for the death of a Highlands Ranch teenager earlier this year, entered a guilty plea on Monday morning in Douglas County District Court. The charges of careless driving resulting in injury and disregarding a traffic signal were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Morones was arrested in connection with the death of 13-year-old Alex Mackiewicz, who was hit and killed while riding his one-wheel to school on March 6 at the intersection of Highlands Ranch Parkway and Venneford Ranch Road. The investigation revealed that Morones likely ran a red light, but there was no indication that he was speeding at the time of the accident. Morones is set to be sentenced on January 7.
