A pro-Donald Trump X account known for spreading unsubstantiated claims recently alleged that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had an inappropriate relationship with a minor while he was a public schoolteacher in the 1990s. The X account, @DocNetyoutube, never offered verifiable proof to support the claim, despite posting over 20 times about the allegation. The baseless story quickly spread to social media platforms and was flagged for spreading false information prompting Meta and TikTok to take action against it.
This is not the first time Walz has been targeted with false allegations. In the past, a claim that he groomed a foreign exchange student was debunked by NewsGuard. The X account behind these false claims also manipulated facts about Walz’s life and career to build the narrative around the latest allegation, including inaccurately stating that he was fired from his teaching position.
More inconsistencies were found in the X account’s posts, such as formatting irregularities in screenshots of emails allegedly sent by a former student accusing Walz of abuse. The X account also misrepresented dates and events, indicating that the allegations were fabricated. In response to these claims, PolitiFact contacted the Harris-Walz campaign but received no comment.
Overall, the allegation against Walz is riddled with inconsistencies and lacks credible evidence to support it. The X account behind these claims has a history of spreading false information, and it is essential to fact-check and verify sources before spreading such damaging accusations.
