Next week will mark one year since Liam Stewart, a Littleton 7th grader, was tragically struck and killed by a driver while riding his bike to Euclid Middle School. Advocates have since been calling for better road design and improvements for pedestrians and cyclists in the city. In honor of Liam’s memory, a rally is scheduled for October 17, where the community, students, teachers, friends, and activists are invited to gather.
The event, organized by Vibrant Littleton, aims to not only remember Liam but to also push for changes that will prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies. Liam’s father, Josh Stewart, has been vocal at City Council meetings, urging for improved infrastructure and safer streets. Despite some minimal interventions being made, there is still a long way to go to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
The Ride for Liam event will start at Euclid Middle School and proceed to Bemis Library, where a bench will be dedicated in Liam’s memory. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, Liam’s favorite color, as a way to honor his memory. The rally will feature speeches from Liam’s family, friends, and the Mayor of Littleton, with the goal of pressing for changes that prioritize safety for all road users. The event is a call to action to make the roads safer not just for kids but for everyone.
