A Florida sheriff deputy named Leslie Boileau was arrested after accidentally shooting his girlfriend, Polina Wright, during a training session at their home. Boileau claimed that he and Wright were cleaning and dry firing their guns when he forgot that the rifle was loaded and accidentally fired, fatally injuring Wright. The incident occurred after the couple had dinner and drinks at a restaurant and returned to find firearm cleaning supplies delivered to their home. Boileau admitted that he was training Wright sloppily and knew his actions were wrong. Following the arrest, Boileau was fired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. He was charged with manslaughter and the Ocala Police Department is working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure justice is served. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods expressed support for the investigation and stated that the actions of one law enforcement officer can impact the entire law enforcement community. The tragic incident highlights the importance of gun safety and proper training procedures.
