The Warwick family welcomed their newborn son, John, at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Douglas County, becoming the first participants in the Healthy Families Partnership. This initiative aims to reduce newborn deaths by providing education and support to caregivers of newborns at the hospital. The partnership offers resources such as sleep sacks to promote safe sleep practices and prevent risks like suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). With roughly 4,000 babies born annually at Sky Ridge, the program’s goal is to inform and support new parents in various aspects of childcare. County officials are now working to implement the partnership in all major hospitals in Douglas County to further support families and reduce infant mortality rates. The program has received support from 15 organizations, with donations of sleep sacks and newborn information kits to kickstart the initiative. Overall, the Healthy Families Partnership is a collaborative effort to ensure the safety and wellbeing of newborns and families in the community.
