Aurora Apartment Complexes Taken Over by Venezuelan Gang: A Timeline of Events

The Denver Gazette has compiled a timeline of events surrounding three apartment complexes in Aurora operated by CBZ Management and taken over by a Venezuelan gang known as Tren de Aragua (TDA). The gang, initially a Venezuelan prison gang, has extended its criminal activities to the metro Denver region. Local authorities have arrested eight individuals and linked 10 to the gang, with allegations ranging from robbery and assault to multiple shootings and domestic violence.

The timeline begins with health and safety issues at the Aspen Grove, Whispering Pines, and Edge of Lowry complexes documented by Aurora officials on April 1, 2021. Subsequent events include arrests of TDA members in connection with various criminal activities such as shootings, assault, and domestic disputes. There are incidents of a hit-and-run, a large jewelry heist, and multiple shootings at the properties linked to the gang.

The situation escalates as the gang informs landlords of the complexes that they are now in charge, leading to pleas for help from CBZ Management to Aurora officials and the Colorado Attorney General. The Biden Administration sanctions TDA, offering a reward for capturing its leaders, and media reports of the gang authorizing attacks on law enforcement.

City officials begin evicting residents from the unsafe Aspen Grove complex and a special task force is assigned to investigate the gang’s activities in the city. Despite initial denials, the city admits knowledge of TDA’s actions and releases the names of suspects linked to the gang. The situation culminates in an agreement for the sale or lease of the Aspen Grove property, with evictions and police protection offered to affected complexes, highlighting a complex and dangerous situation involving gang control of Aurora apartment complexes.
