Search for alleged shooter Joseph Couch from Kentucky’s I-75 shooting still ongoing

Authorities in Kentucky are continuing a manhunt for Joseph Couch, who is suspected of opening fire on passing vehicles on Interstate 75, injuring five people. The search is focused on a wooded area near the highway, with law enforcement using helicopters, drones, and canines to locate Couch. Schools in nearby counties remain closed out of caution, and officials are urging residents to stay calm and stand together.

Couch, a former Army Reserves member, is facing charges of attempted murder and assault, with additional charges likely. He had texted the mother of his child before the shooting, stating his intention to “kill a lot of people” and then himself. A $15,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Couch’s arrest.

Authorities recovered an AR-15 rifle and ammunition in a vehicle abandoned by Couch near the highway exit. The investigation is being led by Kentucky State Police, with assistance from local deputies, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Despite severe injuries, all victims are expected to recover.

The reporter for this article is Cybele Mayes-Osterman for USA Today, and she can be contacted via email or on Twitter. The authorities are determined to apprehend Couch and bring him to justice for the violence he has caused.
