RTD light rail lines in Colorado continue to frustrate locals with ongoing speed restrictions and slowdowns

Riders on RTD’s light rail system have been facing delays and frustrations all summer due to ongoing repair projects. The construction blitz aims to address years of delayed maintenance in one summer, but there is still no clear timeline for when the repairs will be completed. Currently, four different areas on the D, E, H, and R lines have slow zones, forcing trains to slow down to just 10 miles per hour.

The delays have had a significant impact on riders traveling to and from the southern metro area, with many expressing their frustration over the lack of transparency and consistent updates from RTD. Some riders have been forced to find alternative transportation methods, such as taking Lyft or driving, to avoid being late to their destinations.

RTD’s website lists several ongoing maintenance and repair projects, with restrictions on speed lifted in some areas as repairs are completed. The transportation system spokesperson stated that the length of slow zones is continually being shortened as repairs progress. However, riders continue to experience difficulties in planning their journeys due to the lack of updated schedules and delays.

RTD encourages riders to use their Next Ride app for real-time updates and assures that information on speed restrictions is regularly updated on their website. Weekly updates are also sent to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and made available publicly online. Despite the ongoing challenges, RTD is working to improve the system, with a focus on safety and transparency for riders.
