Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, is facing more coaching staff turnover just days before the start of the season. Trevor Reilly, the team’s special teams coordinator, has left the staff, following Sanders from Jackson State where he was a graduate assistant. This adds to the two other on-field Colorado staffers who have changed roles since the beginning of the 2023 season.
Sanders has already replaced his offensive and defensive coordinators this season, bringing in former NFL head coach Pat Shurmur as the offensive play caller. Former offensive coordinator Sean Lewis was demoted mid-season and later became the head coach at San Diego State. Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly left for Auburn and was replaced by first-time play caller Robert Livingston. Other first-time position coaches were also added to the staff.
In an effort to bolster his coaching staff, Sanders recently added NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp as a graduate assistant and George Helow, who has experience coaching at Michigan and Alabama. This ongoing staff turnover presents challenges for the Buffaloes as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Fans and analysts are eager to see how these changes will impact the team’s performance on the field. Sanders’ ability to navigate these staffing challenges will be crucial as Colorado aims to improve upon their 4-8 record from last season.
