Arizona’s primary elections left the three most contested U.S. congressional races in the state too close to call. Former state Rep. Amish Shah leads in Scottsdale’s congressional seat race, while attorney Abe Hamadeh is ahead of venture capitalist Blake Masters in the West Valley’s 8th Congressional District. In the Phoenix-area 3rd Congressional District, former Phoenix Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari leads. Republican Reps. Eli Crane, Juan Ciscomani, and David Schweikert successfully defended their primary challenges.
Results are unofficial until all ballots are counted, with no indication of how many remain uncounted. In Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, Shah leads, while Crane fended off a primary challenge in the 2nd Congressional District. In the 3rd Congressional District, Ansari holds the lead, with Republican Jeff Zink victorious on his side. Kelly Cooper leads in the 4th Congressional District race. In the 5th Congressional District, incumbents Andy Biggs and Katrina Schaffner won nominations unopposed. Ciscomani won in the 6th Congressional District, with Engel earning the Democratic nomination unopposed.
In the 7th Congressional District, Democratic incumbents Raúl Grijalva and Daniel Francis Butierez Sr., won nominations unopposed. In the 8th Congressional District, Hamadeh leads in a contested race. Gosar and Smith won in the 9th Congressional District. Results continue to be tallied and verified, with key races remaining too close to call.
