Former Boulder swim coach Jon Michael Beber has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for multiple sex offenses against underage swimmers. Beber, who worked for Boulder Swimming in the late 1990s and early 2000s, was found guilty on all charges, including sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. The victims came forward with decades-old allegations, leading to Beber’s trial and eventual conviction.
Beber, 54, also coached swim teams in New York, Florida, and Georgia throughout his career. He was arrested while working as the CFO of a café in Atlanta. The jury imposed a lengthy sentence of 42 years-to-life in the Department of Corrections, with the judge ordering the terms to be served consecutively.
Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated that the case was a parent’s worst nightmare, where a trusted adult abused their position of authority. Beber’s attorney plans to appeal the ruling.
The case began with a phone call from a victim inquiring about the statute of limitations on sexual abuse. This sparked an investigation that led to multiple victims coming forward. Beber’s history of offenses highlights the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and seeking justice for survivors of abuse.
