Amanda Sandoval, a Denver city councilmember from District 1, was elected as council president, replacing Jamie Torres. Sandoval, serving her second term, has been at the City and County Building since 2012. She was elected unanimously by her colleagues and will be joined by council pro tem Diana Romero Campbell. Sandoval is known for her work on rezoning homes for accessory dwelling units in District 1 and renaming Columbus Park to La Raza Park. She faced threats during this process but persevered. Sandoval’s family, including her late father, former Sen. Paul Sandoval, has been a major inspiration for her. She aims to make a difference for future generations and represent the council with gusto. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve as council president and thanked her family for their support. Torrers, her predecessor, spoke highly of Sandoval’s leadership and commitment to making a positive impact. Sandoval has dedicated her work to creating policies that will benefit future Denverites and combat displacement and gentrification in District 1. As the new council president, she will oversee meetings and represent the council in dealings with other governmental bodies. Sandoval’s leadership style and dedication to her community make her an inspiring choice for this role.
